in the uk: pressing 55 after calling 999 lets the operator know you need help but you aren’t able to talk, this allows emergency services to help you the best they can while ruling out a hoax.

in the usa: there is no extension number, stay on the call and they will help you out by asking you to tap your phone etc - resources can vary in different areas.

in the uk: if you are uncomfortable/in danger in a bar / restaurant - ask for ‘angela’ staff will call you a taxi or help you out discreetly.

in the usa: if you’re uncomfortable/in danger in a bar - ask staff for an ‘angel shot’ which acts as a codewaord to signal need for assistance.
